Mary Harris Jones (AKA Mother Jones).. “The Most Dangerous Woman in American”

“Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.” -Mother Jones

From 1897 (when she was 60) she was known as Mother Jones and in 1902 she was called “the most dangerous woman in America” for her success in organizing mine workers and their families against the mine owners.

In 1903, upset about the lax enforcement of the child labor laws in the Pennsylvania mines and silk mills, she organized a Children’s March from Philadelphia to the home of then president Theodore Roosevelt in New York.

She was a REAL “Community Organizer” (not like someone.. POTUS, Nobel “Peace” Prize)..

She was denounced on the floor of the United States Senate as the “grandmother of all agitators,” she replied: “I hope to live long enough to be the great-grandmother of all agitators.”

In The American Songbag, Carl Sandburg suggests that the “she” in “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” was a reference to Mother Jones.

“The Death of Mother Jones”, a song whose authorship is unknown, was first recorded by Gene Autry in 1931, in what may have been his first recording session.

“Union Maid”, a song by Woody Guthrie, calls for women to emulate Mother Jones by fighting for both women’s rights and workers’ rights.

“The most dangerous woman” a spoken word performance by indie folk singer/spoken word performer, Utah Phillips, with music and backing vocals added to it by indie folk artist Ani Difranco, can be found on their collaborative album,

‘The Spirit of Mother Jones’ is a track on the 2010 ‘Abocurragh’ album by the Irish singer/songwriter Andy Irvine.

She is the title “woman” in Tom Russell’s song “The Most Dangerous Woman in America”, a commentary on the troubles of miners, which appeared on his 2009 album “Blood and Candle Smoke”.

And to be illuminated without setting up an opposite.

When one knows It without stirring anything up,
Such knowing is naturally humble:
When one is illumined without setting up an opposite,
Such illumination is naturally subtle.

Since that knowing is naturally humble,
There is never a discriminating thought:
Since that illumination is naturally subtle
There is never the least outward sign of It.

Since there is never a discriminating thought,
That knowing is wondrous, with nothing left to be dealt with:
Since there is never the least outward sign of It,
That illumination is complete, with nothing left unrealized.

The water is now so clear you can see to its depths,
As fish swim by at their leisure:
The sky is now so clear it is boundless,

Maxwell’s Equations for ElectroMagnetics

Maxwell’s equations are a set of partial differential equations that, together with the Lorentz force law, form the foundation of classical electrodynamics, classical optics, and electric circuits. These fields in turn underlie modern electrical and communications technologies.

Maxwell’s equations have two major variants. The “microscopic” set of Maxwell’s equations uses total charge and total current including the difficult-to-calculate atomic level charges and currents in materials. The “macroscopic” set of Maxwell’s equations defines two new auxiliary fields that can sidestep having to know these ‘atomic’ sized charges and currents.

Maxwell’s equations are named after the Scottish physicist and mathematician James Clerk Maxwell, since in an early form they are all found in a four-part paper, “On Physical Lines of Force,” which he published between 1861 and 1862. The mathematical form of the Lorentz force law also appeared in this paper.

Physical Law of Conservation & Continuity Equation

In physics, a conservation law states that a particular measurable property of an isolated physical system does not change as the system evolves.

One particularly important physical result concerning conservation laws is Noether’s Theorem, which states that there is a one-to-one correspondence between conservation laws and differentiable symmetries of physical systems. For example, the conservation of energy follows from the time-invariance of physical systems, and the fact that physical systems behave the same regardless of how they are oriented in space gives rise to the conservation of angular momentum.

A continuity equation in physics is an equation that describes the transport of a conserved quantity. Since mass, energy, momentum, electric charge and other natural quantities are conserved under their respective appropriate conditions, a variety of physical phenomena may be described using continuity equations.

Continuity equations are the (stronger) local form of conservation laws. All the examples of continuity equations below express the same idea, which is roughly that: the total amount (of the conserved quantity) inside any region can only change by the amount that passes in or out of the region through the boundary. A conserved quantity cannot increase or decrease, it can only move from place to place.

Fluctuation-Dissipation Theorem

The fluctuation-dissipation theorem is a powerful tool in statistical physics for predicting the behavior of non-equilibrium thermodynamical systems. These systems involve the irreversible dissipation of energy into heat from their reversible thermal fluctuations at thermodynamic equilibrium. The fluctuation-dissipation theorem applies both to classical and quantum mechanical systems.

The fluctuation-dissipation theorem relies on the assumption that the response of a system in thermodynamic equilibrium to a small applied force is the same as its response to a spontaneous fluctuation. Therefore, the theorem connects the linear response relaxation of a system from a prepared non-equilibrium state to its statistical fluctuation properties in equilibrium

An early use of this idea by Einstein was applied to Brownian Motion of a particle in a fluid in 1905. (diffusion & conductive processes related)
